The calculation of the electromagnetic fine structure constant α within the Standard Model

Abstract: This article contains a proposal for a new and simple equation that can be used to calculate the reciprocal electromagnetic (em) fine structure constant α⁻¹ at low energies:

\alpha^{-1}=16\pi

Solving this equation will lead to:

\alpha^{-1}=137.0359992264… .

If the experimental error bar is taken into account, this value in comparison with the newest (2012) experimental value of 137.035999174(35) will show an extremely precise conformity within a relative deviation of 10⁻¹⁰.

An explanation is given of the physical background of the proposed equation, which is based on the masses of the leptons and the W⁺ boson, on quantum electrodynamic (QED) calculations on the vacuum polarization, and on the statement that all coupling constants at the Planck energy

(1.22 10^{19}GeV)

have the value

1/16\pi.
